Nicole ZAND, a journalist and literary critic of Polish-Jewish origin, joined the daily Le Monde in 1962, where, along with Colette Godard, Claude Sarraute and Yvonne Baby, she was one of the paper's pioneering women editors. Her first articles appeared in Le Monde's culture pages in 1962. Between 1970 and 1977, she followed Le Monde's cultural activities to Washington and Moscow, where her husband Jacques Amalric was the paper's foreign correspondent. Nicole Zand-Amalric joined Le Monde des Livres from 1986 to 1996.
