Eugène LAMI (1800-1890), attribué à
PRUSSIAN SAFEGUARD, LED BY RAOUL DE MONTMORENCY TO PROTECT THE MANUFACTURE OF JOUY IN 1814. Watercolour, captioned on the back cardboard. At sight : 15,5 x 22,5 cm. Mrs Caroline IMBERT, author of the catalogue raisonné in preparation and specialist of Eugène LAMI, attributes our watercolour to the artist. It is for her another version of a watercolour of the same subject sold by Sotheby's in the sale of historical souvenirs belonging to the family of France on 29 and 30 September 2015, under the n° 78. This watercolour came from the collections of Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Chartres and had been part of an album belonging to Duke Raoul de Montmorency (Paul-André LEMOISNE, L'œuvre d'Eugène Lami, Essai d'un catalogue raisonné, Paris, 1914, pl. 15, no. 48). The provenance of our watercolour, whose current owner is a descendant of Raoul de Montmorency through a collateral branch, thus confirms this attribution to Eugène LAMI. We are very grateful to Mrs Caroline IMBERT who will include this watercolour in the catalogue raisonné in preparation.
