ATELIER JACQUES FOUGEIROL - Lot 101
ATELIER JACQUES FOUGEIROL
FACE. COQUILLAGE BLEU.
Oil on canvas, signed lower right.
73 x 92 cm.
Jacques FOUGEIROL was born June 30, 1929 in Saint-Laurent-du-Pape, Ardèche. After a first professional activity as a stylist, he decided to fulfil his vocation as a painter and to devote himself entirely to it.
He thus trained himself as a self-taught artist. His first private exhibitions in Marseille and then in Paris date back to 1968. In 1969, he took part in the Fantastic Art Exhibition at the Château de Culan in Cher.
More than abstraction, his works are seen as dreamlike developments, very often based on the human face and drawing on the forms of the mineral world. He shows great technical assurance while using a padded chromatic range whose cold tones are intimately linked to the strangeness of the composition.
Works by Jacques Fougeirol are kept in the Cabinet des Estampes de Mulhouse and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.
