Twelve silver dessert knives, (formerly gilt), the handles lined with fillets and foliage ending in button, the blades in silver. Engraved with a crest. Master goldsmith's mark Luigi VALADIER. Rome, circa 1780. Length : 20,5 cm - Gross weight : 778 g Luigi Valadier, (1726-1785) born in Rome, master silversmith in 1760, he insculpts his LV hallmark, three fleur-de-lis; he was one of the greatest silversmiths and bronzemakers of his time and made several prestigious works such as the large one above all preserved in the Louvre museum; he will receive numerous orders from the Vatican and from renowned foreign clients such as the Elector Charles-Theodore of Bavaria, for whom he made the silver reproduction of the Trajan column.
