Pierre-Yves TREMOIS (1921-2020). CHOUETTE ATHENA, 1991. Poli - Lot 226
Pierre-Yves TREMOIS (1921-2020). CHOUETTE ATHENA, 1991. Polished bronze, signed and justified 3/8, marked Susse Frères Paris. Minor oxidation. H. 37 cm - L. 43 cm. Protector goddess of cities and civic life, of crafts and techniques, but above all known as the goddess of war as well as wisdom and reason, Athena possesses mètis, cunning intelligence. These multiple attributions, interpreted by Pierre-Yves Trémois, can be found on both sides of our bronze: on one side, War symbolized by a threatening face and a shattered, nail-pierced body; on the other, an owl's head, symbol of wisdom in the ancient world. This duality is complemented and reinforced by maxims such as "I love weapons and I am disarming", or "Stronger than Love, I am all and unique". Bibliography: BROHARD Yvan. Trémois: catalog raisonné. Saint-Rémy-en-l'Eau: Editions Monelle Hayot, 2017. Model reproduced on p. 4444.
